Detrack vs OptimoRoutePricing, proof of delivery, courier jobs and route optimisation: a comprehensive comparison

In short

Detrack and OptimoRoute both charge per driver, but they are built for different jobs. OptimoRoute is route optimisation first, made for delivery and field service teams. Detrack is delivery proof first with route optimisation built into the core platform: electronic proof of delivery, branded customer updates, vehicle inspections, route optimisation and courier pickup and drop-off jobs.

  • Price for the same features. Detrack Advanced costs $39 per driver per month for route optimisation, proof of delivery and customer notifications, against $49 for OptimoRoute Pro.
  • Proof of delivery without routing. Detrack Pro includes proof of delivery and notifications for $29. OptimoRoute's cheapest plan with proof of delivery is $49.
  • Customer updates. Detrack sends WhatsApp updates as well as SMS and email. OptimoRoute lists email and text messages.
  • Security. Detrack is HIPAA compliant and ISO 27001 certified. OptimoRoute states that it is SOC 2 Type 1 certified.
  • Vehicle checks and AI tools. Detrack includes its own MCP server and Co Driver, its in-dashboard AI chat, on every plan, plus pre-start vehicle checks on Advanced. OptimoRoute lists none of these on its website.
  • Where OptimoRoute is stronger. OptimoRoute is the stronger planner for more specific routing use cases: driver skills, and truck and hazmat routing.

Choose OptimoRoute if routing complexity is your biggest problem. Choose Detrack if proving every job and keeping customers informed matters most.

What is the difference between Detrack and OptimoRoute?

OptimoRoute focuses on route optimisation. Detrack focuses on both proof of delivery and route optimisation at its core. Both do some of each, but each started from a different problem, and that is reflected in what is included in each subscription plan.

OptimoRoute describes itself as software for "organizing the mobile workforce". Its focus is building the best schedule and route plan for delivery and field service teams, and about half of the 16 industries on its website are field service, such as HVAC, pest control, pool maintenance and inspections. It says it has more than 3,000 customers.

Detrack is delivery management software for businesses that need to show what happened on every job as well as optimising the route. Its core is electronic proof of delivery, live tracking and branded customer updates, with route optimisation added on the Advanced plan. Detrack is a global platform and is used in over 60 countries, covering all industries.

For this comparison we have used information available on the OptimoRoute website, checked on 3 November 2026.

Which is more cost-effective, Detrack or OptimoRoute?

Detrack costs less for the same features. Both charge a flat rate per driver per month, both offer 10% off for paying annually, and neither has a contract on monthly plans. The difference is what each plan includes. Prices below are per driver per month in USD.

Plan Billed monthly Billed annually What it includes
Detrack Pro $29 $26$312 a year Proof of delivery, branded customer notifications and tracking links, live tracking, customer feedback, the Detrack MCP server and Co Driver in-dashboard AI chat, unlimited office users and no job minimums or limits

On annual billing

10 drivers on Detrack Advanced cost $4,200 a year against $5,292 on OptimoRoute Pro, a difference of $1,092.

Both are priced per driver, so office staff do not change the bill on either. Detrack's pricing includes unlimited office users and unlimited jobs on every plan. OptimoRoute's pricing page charges by the number of drivers you plan for, with no separate charge for office users listed. Detrack bills in US, Singapore, Australian or New Zealand dollars. OptimoRoute's pricing page shows dollars without naming the currency.

Which has better proof of delivery and customer updates?

Both capture solid proof and send branded tracking updates. The difference is that Detrack includes both, plus WhatsApp, on every plan, while OptimoRoute includes them on its Pro and Custom plans only. If proof of delivery is how you get paid, settle disputes or win contracts, that decides the entry price you pay.

Proof of delivery

Detrack captures signatures, up to 10 photos per job, timestamps and GPS location, with item barcode scanning in the driver app. OptimoRoute captures photos, notes, e-signatures and barcode scans, plus custom proof of delivery forms for more detailed completion steps. OptimoRoute's custom forms are a genuine strength if your drivers or technicians fill in checklists at each stop.

Proof records

Detrack proof is searchable for up to 5 years and can be shared as a branded proof of delivery report with your logo, in a click. On OptimoRoute, proof stays attached to each order for dispatchers to review. Detrack's other strength is proof at both ends of a courier job, covered in the next section.

Customer notifications

Detrack sends automatic SMS, WhatsApp and email updates, with a branded live tracking link that opens in the browser, so customers do not download an app. Detrack connects to your own SMS provider, with nine built in, including Twilio, Vonage, 8x8 and Kudosity, and you pay that provider directly with no charge from Detrack.

OptimoRoute sends email and text message notifications with your own logo, a tracking page with live ETAs and a countdown, and customer feedback after each job. Its text messages use credits bought from OptimoRoute, priced per text by destination country, for example US$0.069 per text to Australia, US$0.125 to New Zealand and US$0.010 to the US. They are sent from a no-reply number, so customers cannot reply. OptimoRoute's built-in credits are quicker to set up, while Detrack lets you choose your provider.

Which handles courier pickup and drop-off jobs better?

For couriers who collect from one address and deliver to another, Detrack keeps both ends in one job with proof at each. OptimoRoute also handles pickups and deliveries together, but lists it on its Custom plan, which is priced through its sales team, and its features page labels it as a beta.

In Detrack this is Special Courier Mode. Our team switches it on for your account, so ask for it when you start your trial. Here is how a job runs.

  1. One job, two addresses

The job holds the pickup address and the drop-off address under one job number (DO number), so the two halves are always one record.

  2. The driver sees one stop at a time

The driver app shows the pickup address first. The drop-off address appears only once the pickup is complete.

  3. Proof at the pickup

The driver captures a signature and photos at the pickup, time-stamped and GPS-located.

  4. Proof at the drop-off

The driver captures the recipient's signature and photos on delivery. With Include pickup photo in POD switched on, the completed job shows the photos from both ends.

The pickup and drop-off can be done by the same driver on the same day, or split across days and drivers, and the job stays one record. That is the chain of custody that medical, legal and B2B courier clients ask for.

OptimoRoute's Pickup and Delivery feature is built for planning: it puts pickups and deliveries into one optimised route, keeps track of vehicle capacity and supports return trips to the depot. If your challenge is fitting many pickups and drops into efficient routes, that is a strong feature. If your challenge is proving each handover, Detrack is built for it.

Is OptimoRoute better at route optimisation?

In some areas, yes. Route optimisation is OptimoRoute's core product, and it offers more planning depth than Detrack, especially for field service and large fleets.

Where OptimoRoute goes further

  • Weekly planning. Up to 5 weeks of orders planned in one click, with the days of the week or date range set for each order. On Pro, OptimoRoute switches it on when you ask.
  • Driver skills. Jobs go only to drivers or technicians qualified to do them.
  • Driver costs and overtime. The planner works out allowed working hours and driver costs, and you can adjust each driver's average speed.
  • Coordinated orders. Schedules jobs that need more than one person.
  • Truck and hazmat routing. Routes use only roads open to large or hazmat vehicles. Custom plan.
  • Long-haul and depots. Multi-day long-haul routes (beta) and dynamic mid-route depots for reloading. Custom plan.

What Detrack covers

Detrack's route planning is on the Advanced plan. It builds optimised routes for the whole fleet in seconds using time windows, vehicle capacity (by weight, cubic metres or pallets), service time, driver working hours and breaks, and your choice of depot, and it can avoid tolls. You can organise routes by zone or driver group, drop an urgent job into an existing route and re-optimise, and set up recurring jobs. For daily delivery and courier runs, that covers what most fleets plan around.

Where they are level

For a daily delivery run, both plan around the same core inputs: time windows, vehicle capacity, service time, driver working hours and start depots. Both re-plan when you add or move a job during the day, and both show dispatchers where drivers are in real time.

The honest answer

If you schedule technicians by skill across several weeks, or route trucks around hazmat restrictions, OptimoRoute is the stronger planner. If your routes are daily delivery runs and the harder part is proving each job and keeping customers informed, Detrack gives you more of what you need for less.

How do security and compliance compare?

Detrack has been HIPAA compliant since 2013 and ISO 27001 certified since 2021. OptimoRoute's FAQ states that it is SOC 2 Type 1 certified.

ISO 27001 is an international standard for how a company manages information security, audited by an independent body. SOC 2 is a US framework for the same broad purpose, and a Type 1 report assesses controls at a single point in time. HIPAA is the US law that protects patient health information. We did not find HIPAA or ISO 27001 mentioned on the OptimoRoute pages we checked, so if you handle patient information, ask OptimoRoute directly.

For healthcare work, see Detrack's security accreditations and medical and pharmacy delivery software.
